The Law & Society Program, established in 1972, offers a Bachelor of Arts degree through an interdisciplinary undergraduate major that focuses on the study of law and legal systems. The curriculum is designed to benefit both the student who desires a liberal arts education, as well as the student who intends to enter graduate or law school.
The discipline of law and society is composed of scholars in many fields and countries, whose interests involve the place of law and legal systems in social, political, economic, and cultural life. Faculty bring strengths from diverse backgrounds including training in law, sociology, political science, psychology, anthropology, economics, and history. Individual faculty research programs are distinct and varied; interests include globalization, racism, immigration, human rights, international law, civil rights and liberties, and security politics.
Our program offers students the opportunity to participate in an honors program, the Mock Trail Team, and individual field-research internships. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of the UCSB Washington Program, in Washington D.C. and the University of California Education Abroad Program. |
