University of California Diversity Initiative for Graduate Study in the Social Sciences (UC DIGSSS)

The Division of Social Sciences has prioritized diversifying its graduate student scholar population. In collaboration with UC Los Angeles, UC Berkeley, and UC Santa Barbara the UC DIGSSS Alliance was created and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  Its specific goal is to recruit, retain, and graduate U.S. under-represented doctoral degree-seeking students.

UC DIGSSS Program offers some funds for recruitment in the following Ph.D.-granting departments: Anthropology, Chicana and Chicano Studies, Communication, Economics, Linguistics, Political Science, and Sociology.  In addition, the Division of Social Sciences sponsors other opportunities for NSF funding through the Summer Research Program, Conference Travel, and Research Support Grants.
