The departments of Asian American Studies, Black Studies, Chicana/o Studies, and Feminist Studies each received $100,000 grants apiece from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Chase Hobbs Morgan received the 2023-24 Distinguished Teaching Award from the Academic Senate in recognition of his successful efforts in teaching with excellence in creative and scholarly work. 

Global studies scholar-activist Charmaine Chua receives Harold J. Plous Memorial Award

The Association for Asian American Studies has awarded Dr. Pei-te Lien of the political science department at UCSB with the Social Sciences Book Prize for Contesting the Last Frontier: Race, Gender, Ethnicity, and Political Representation of Asian Americans. 

 

Black Studies Department Chair and Professor Omise'eke Natasha Tinsley's The Color Pynk: Black Femme Art for Survival (University of Texas Press, 2022), wins the 2023 John Leo & Dana Heller Award for Best Single Work, Anthology, Multi-Authored, or Edited Book in LGBTQ Studies.

Charmaine Chua, an assistant professor of global studies at UC Santa Barbara, has received a 2023 Freedom Scholar award from the Marguerite Casey Foundation.

 

The National Communication Association has awarded Dr. Tammy Afifi the Mark L. Knapp Award in Interpersonal Communication.

UCSB Professor and environmental economist Kyle Meng will join the White House Council of Economic Advisers as Senior Economist.
