Faculty Members in the Department of Sociology Take Home Major Awards

At the 110th Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association (ASA) in Chicago, several faculty in UCSB's Department of Sociology took home major awards.  The meeting provides the opportunity for professionals involved in the scientific study of society to share knowledge and new directions in research and practice. Nearly 600 program sessions are convened during the four-day meeting held every August to provide participation venues and networking outlets for nearly 3,000 research papers and over 4,600 presenters.

Denise Segura receives 2015 Feminist Mentoring Award

Professor Denise Segura was honored with the 2015 Feminist Mentoring Award at the Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) banquet in Chicago. This major career award recognizes extraordinary service to students and pioneering efforts to promote a more inclusive academy and society.

Howard Winant Receives 2015 Founder's Award and 2015 Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award

Professor Howard Winant received the 2015 Founder's Award for Scholarship and Service from the American Sociological Association's Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities. This major career honor is in addition to the prestigious Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award, which was presented to Professor Winant at the ASA awards plenary in Chicago and recognizes a lifetime of research, teaching and service to the community.

Bill Robinson Receives 2015 ASA Book Awards

Professor Bill Robinson's 2014 book, Global Capitalism and the Crisis of Humanity, was honored with awards from two ASA sections at the annual meeting in Chicago: the Section on Marxist Sociology's Paul Sweezy Book Award, and the Section on Political Economy of the World-System's Distinguished Book Award.
