Professor Omise'eke Tinsley wins 2023 John Leo & Dana Heller Award for Best Single Work, Anthology, Multi-Authored, or Edited Book in LGBTQ Studies, PACA & PCA

Black Studies Department Chair and Professor Omise'eke Natasha Tinsley's The Color Pynk: Black Femme Art for Survival (University of Texas Press, 2022), wins the 2023 John Leo & Dana Heller Award for Best Single Work, Anthology, Multi-Authored, or Edited Book in LGBTQ Studies, Popular and American Culture Association (PACA) / Popular Culture Association (PCA). The Color Pynk is a passionate exploration of Black femme poetics of survival. Tinsley argues that creative work in the form of politically engaged art, entertainment, and ideas challenge power structures that limit how we color, gender, and explore freedom. The Color Pynk also earned the following Honorable Mentions: 2023 Alan Bray Memorial Book Award & 2023 Harry Shaw and Katrina Hazzard-Donald Award for Outstanding Word in African-American Popular Culture Studies (PACA/PCA).
