Attention Political Science Students! The Department of Political Science is now accepting applications for several scholarships

The Cosic Scholarship Spring 2019
 
Award Date: Saturday, June 1, 2019
 
This scholarship was established at the University of California at Santa Barbara in honor of a couple who immigrated to the U.S. from the former Yugoslavia. The scholarship recognizes the sacrifices and honors the important contributions made by immigrants in America each day, and the critical role of education in paving a pathway to a brighter future.
 
Criteria
  • Be a permanent resident, naturalized citizen, or a first-generation American student
  • Intend to graduate from UCSB with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science
  • Be enrolled full-time
  • Have a GPA of 3.0+
  • Demonstrate financial need

The Casier Scholarship Spring 2019
 
Award Date: Saturday, June 1, 2019
 
This scholarship is made possible by Santa Barbara native and UCSB alumnus Robert “Bob” Casier. Bob was a renowned teacher and scholar, acknowledged nationally for his contributions. He and his wife, Shirle, left funds to UCSB to support scholarships in Political Science.
 
Criteria
  • Be in residence at UCSB during the 2019-20 academic year,
  • Be an undergraduate majoring in Political Science
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in political science

The Costigan Scholarship Spring 2019
 
Award Date: Saturday, June 1, 2019
 
The Department of Political Science is pleased to announce the Costigan Scholarship. This scholarship is established by our generous alumnus and donor, Mike Costigan. One awardee will be selected to receive a $2,500 scholarship during the Spring Quarter 2019.
 
Criteria
  • The scholarship is intended for upper division students majoring in Political Science
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to conservative politics
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Kevin Patrick Moran Scholarship Spring 2019
 
Award Date: Thursday, June 13, 2019
 
This scholarship is dedicated in memory of Kevin Patrick Moran, a UCSB honor student who lost his life in the process of bringing peace to the Isla Vista Community. The fund shall be used to provide scholarship assistance to worthy undergraduate students who demonstrate not only leadership qualities but a high degree of academic promise and have demonstrated a devotion to the way of life consistent with the peaceful principles by which Kevin Moran lived.
 
The Department of Political Science seeks applicants who have dedicated time and effort to activities that advance the goals of mutual understanding, cooperation and non-violent resolution of disagreement or conflict.
 
Selection Criteria
 
  • This scholarship is open to Juniors and Seniors with preference given to Political Science majors
  • Leadership involvement in community and campus service activities
  • Submission of an essay on the topic of Conflict Resolution: Advancing the ideals of peace and cooperation
  • Strong academic performance
  • Recipient must be a registered student for at least one quarter of the 2019-20 academic year

The Larry Adams Scholarship in Public Policy Spring 2019
 
Award Date: Thursday, June 13, 2019
 
The Department of Political Science is pleased to announce the Larry Adams Scholarship in Public Policy, established in honor of former UCSB Professor Larry Adams by R. Marilyn Lee, ‘69. Larry Adams’ strong commitment to public service and political involvement inspired a generation of students at UCSB.
 
The Adams Scholarship recognizes the importance of local internships and the benefits that such experiences can have for UCSB students. It will be given to a selected upper division political science major serving as an unpaid intern in a local government agency or in the local office of a state or federal elected official or agency during Spring quarter 2019. The stipend for the award is $1,000.
 
Eligibility Requirements
  • Junior or Senior Political Science major
  • Strong GPA
  • Willingness to work as an intern
  • 10-12 hours per week
  • in a local government agency, or
  • in the local office of a state or federal elected official or agency.

Examples of local government agencies that offer internships: District Attorney’s office in both Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties
