The Division of Social Sciences welcomes Diane Fujino as the Associate Dean and Faculty Equity Advisor (FEA) for 2020-21.

Diane Fujino is professor in the Department of Asian American Studies, where she served as chair twice, and former director of the Center for Black Studies Research.  She is a leading scholar of Asian American activism studies and Afro-Asian solidarities, and is author of several books on Japanese American, Asian American, and Black social movements.  She serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Asian American Studies, to begin as co-editor-in-chief in January 2021. She is the recipient of the Academic Senate’s inaugural Faculty Diversity Award.  In her work and relationships, she emphasizes collaborative processes, an ethos of experimentation, and innovative visioning.  She works in the local community as a Board member of the Fund for Santa Barbara, a former Board member of La Casa de la Raza, and a member of the Ethnic Studies Now! Santa Barbara coalition.

With the same pleasure and excitement, the Division has announced that its previous FEA, Professor Aida Hurtado, Luis Leal Chair in the Department of Chicano/a Studies, will move into the position of Associate Dean, vacated when Professor Leila Rupp accepted the position of Interim Dean of the Graduate Division.
